Bookmarks From Beth: giggle Storyteller

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

There is a lot to be excited about in the Lincoln Park giggle media department! Your giggle team works very hard to assemble an excellent assortment of books for a broad range of readers. Our collection includes classics like Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, as well as newer titles like Jonathan Allen’s charming I’m Not Scared!

For the very young reader check out Charley Harper’s 123s and ABCs. They’re terrific little books for the littlest of hands. And for those who just want to listen, giggle offers a carefully edited assortment of fabulous CDs that run the gamut, from classic nursery rhymes to lullaby versions of The Beatles, Bob Marley and U2!

Whichever you choose, you’re certain to find something to make you and your little one(s) “giggle”!

So, don’t be shy! Come on over to giggle’s Books & Media section to get the “latest word!” And I look forward to seeing you at Storytime, every Tuesday @ 4pm.

Happy New Year! Beth.

Bay Area Baby Whisperer

The following quote is from a new family who contacted me to help them navigate through some of the issues they were facing with their newborn. Starting in the New Year I will be making home visits to assist other families as they get situated with their new babies.

“Transitioning from the hospital was daunting; we realized that the answers aren’t a click away. Having Sarah in our home, demonstrating techniques was invaluable. She addressed sleep, soothing, feeding and took advantage of the products we already owned. She is the whisperer!”

Full Gallop

I’m always looking for a way to put something zany into the basically minimalist rooms I like to create. One thing, you know, to show that I’ve still got a goofy streak, despite the onset of advanced middle age.

I always admire decorating that’s really unhinged and is successful without being disciplined–it’s just not one of my gifts to do this, so maybe that’s why I love it when done well by others. In a previous post I discussed the possibility of this anarchic role being filled by a chair…but another good way to bring the volume up, just a little if you’re like me, is through a rug.

Like this one from the incomparable Genius Jones store in Miami. If you want to be inspired, go on their site–owner Dan Kron is a great editor and fellow Modern Baby pioneer. And while I’m putting the same sheepskin rug in every Netto catalog for years, here he comes with this zebra which is utterly charming.

Put it in a modern nursery for punch and do the rest all quiet and white: it’s gonna look great.

Happy Holidays

igloo

One of my favorite holiday traditions with my son, Reeve, is building an igloo (nicknamed the R’igloo for Reeve).  The first year (he was 1), he was too scared to go in.  Last year (age 2, picture above), it took him a while but ultimately he was lured in by the idea of lighting a candle inside.  He has been asking about this year’s for many months and we were out there yesterday getting it started.

When I read David Netto’s great, recent post about creating unique camping spaces for children (link here), all I could think of was our igloo tradition.

What does this have to do with creating a healthier, greener nursery?   I have no idea…(then again, a zero carbon footprint, 100% biodegradable and all local materials…it just might quality for LEED platinum).

I hope you have a great holiday with your family and friends!
